Marine Transportation Program

In November 2005, Vale completed its construction activities in Labrador and began operations following which the first two shipments of nickel concentrate were shipped from Edward’s Cove. During 2008, 20 vessels arrived at Edward’s Cove to transport nickel and copper concentrate and delivered cargo and fuel. Vale anticipates another busy season into and out of Edward’s Cove and the mix of cargoes to be shipped will be somewhat similar to those shipped in 2008. The MV Umiak 1 will generally be used to support Vale shipping requirements with some non MV Umiak1 export voyages.

The marine transportation activity in and out of Edward’s Cove this year will be conducted in accordance with the Shipping Agreement between Vale and the Nunatsiavut Government.

For those requiring detailed current information of the next shipment, transit information can be obtained by listening to the OK Society broadcast in Nain or calling the toll-free shipping information line at 1 877 922 SHIP (7447) or by contacting the Mine site at (709) 922-4437. Vale website – vinl.valeinco.com – has information on the most current shipping schedule.
